Easy riding into Spring
Easy ride catch up report! TLDR lots of sociable rides with numbers ranging from 3 on a Thursday pop up, to 25 out today on two different rides.
We have a very wide definition of easy rides, at one end was today's easy paced 200km 3 loops with 3 cafe stops led by John J and Philip Br. This was aimed at riders not available for the reliability ride next Sunday, as well as any wanting to practice at an easy pace! 19 riders set off, 9 completed 3 loops, and the rest completed between 1 and 2 loops. There were some mechanical failures, John J's rim exploded overnight in the garage, so he had to do a bike swap, and arrived at the Broken Cross start a few minutes late. Michelle's gear mech locked up until John worked his magic on it, Claire W's seat post cracked but she made it back home before it fully snapped, and Anwen's brake seized on, so Snowy had to come up with an emergency plan, involving conveniently located grandparents. Congratulations to Michelle and Simon (Troy) on completing their first 3 loops challenge!
At the other end of the easy spectrum was today's "extra easy" 24 mile afternoon ride which I led from Wilmslow to Dunham, aimed at riders returning after a break, or new to group riding. It was great to have Ruth, Alicia and Andy back on their bikes after a long winter break, Griff finding his cycling legs again after 5 weeks on the other side of the world and Francis.
Other easy rides have included a late February Sunday ride for 12 of us from Wilmslow to the newly refurbished cafe at Grasslands, and the following Sunday 18 of us rode in 3 groups from Macclesfield to Alsager. Mothering Sunday saw 5 of us ignore the wet forecast and ride from Wilmslow to Tatton Park.
Next Sunday there will be another " extra easy" afternoon ride for those of us needing an easier ride than the Richard Elliot Reliability ride, full details are on the website and everyone is welcome. Good luck to club members riding the Chirk 200km audax next Sunday!
