MTB Ride
We've had a thriving XC MTB group since the late 1980's. The group rides extensively around our corner of the Peak District National Park. We ride 'cross country' style MTB and are not hardcore 'downhillers', although we do encounter many challenging downhill sections during our outings.
The standard of technical skills and fitness required is quite high, but we do encourage fit, keen beginners to join us. We ride in any weather conditions, summer and winter, sun, rain or snow... so be warned!
We’ve tried various ways of accommodating lower ability riders, with varying degrees of success. The current practice is to give new riders several opportunities to drop out early. So if you’re struggling, there’ll be places where you can leave the ride and make your way home. This means we can accommodate mixed ability riders, without slowing the group, but this ‘early bath’ option does not apply to U18s riding without a parent or guardian.
We won’t leave anyone in the middle of nowhere; although but you might find it useful to bring a Garmin or similar device or a map (remember them?). Obviously the fitter you get, or already are, the longer your MTB ride will become.
Meet at
South Park Car Park, off Park Grove, Macclesfield, SK11 8AS. If it’s raining, we’ll be sheltering in the pavilion to the right.
