Sunday Easy Ride to Styal village
Sunday's good weather and 'new' cafe brought out 18 riders.
These included Aoifa and Ali on their first ever Macclesfield Wheelers ride (welcome!). Yvonne and myself met them at the cafe to make a round 20. Yvonne had arrived late at Broken Cross so had spent the morning chasing after the rest of the group whilst being misled by her Garmin. I had cycled from home to forewarn the cafe about the invading cyclists. The cafe volunteers coped really well, the food was good and amazing value. I led the group back to Siddington so that John could get back to the velodrome with Martin for their final volunteering stint in the Manchester 6 day box. Griff took on the back sweeper role on the way back, definitely needed when two of our more experienced riders at the front forgot that it was an easy ride, didn't stop to regroup after a junction and started winding the pace up. I had to rediscover my sprinting speed to get back up to the front, bring out the voice once used to keep cub scouts in order, and remind them that we never knowingly lose anyone on an easy ride!
