Ten Dived By Two = 2 groups @ 6

Ten wheelers formed a very large circle in the car park at Broken X last night but two far apart to hold hand’s

A cut was made exactly down the middle and the first group with myself, Ant on his first group ride since before lockdown, Colin on his first training ride, Carl who actually made it to Broken X for the official start for the first time in living memory and ride regular Dave set of just ahead. Group 2 shadowed us until the long straight on Forty Acre Lane where they passed us.

It isn’t the intention to have a fast and a slower group as the ethos of the ride is stronger and more experienced rider’s support those less so but as the cut happened the second group was probably collectively a bit stronger; Andy, Chris, Francis, Vinney and Paul on his second 6@6 ride. Our group averaged about 18mph on the circuit and the second group about 20 or just under, so both nicely within the parameter’s of advertised speed (16 to 20mph).

At the de-brief in the PT after (where group 2 also outgunned group 1) the consensus was that after a initial jumpy start group 1 had had a well disciplined ride for the most part and that no doubt contributed to there good speed. In our group I can report that Colin rode strongly and will learn to ride in a disciplined group, Carl was frisky, Dave was steady and Ant seemed to enjoy the social aspect of riding in a group again.

The most satisfying thing for me was that out of the ten three, of the rider’s were new since we have restarted after lockdown, that bode’s well for the future of the ride and the club.
