Lark and Larkling Rides to No Car Gulch
Larks and Larklings set off as one group and Old Buxton Road soon reminded me why I should unleash the former and stay with the latter.
Accordingly, Steve, Dave, Joe, Raph and Phil set off and intersected us later (sans Steve who had a better offer, known as Macc Town) with a pleasing synchronicity at our mile 15.9, from which vantage point we were smug at being able to watch them continue to ascend. Our smugness disappeared the moment we continued into a headwind allegedly downhill to Peak Dale.
Despite their 23.8 miles to the, as always spotless, No Car Café, compared to our 21.5, they were there before us, already demolishing second helpings of the jam roly poly and double custard that must be the secret of the finely balanced diet/training regime which makes them the envy of the club. I am making some of this up.
Chapeau to Garry, out with this ride for the first time, having been awarded a free upgrade from the Saturday Social Ride. Not that we’re not social as well of course, or maybe the ride leader should not be the one to judge. Just ask any of the well-drilled Larklings riding two-by-two in silence for 38 miles at an average speed of 11.5 mph. The Larks were probably going too fast to talk for their 47 miles.
Flat ride next week, I reckon.
