Wednesday Club Run to Hope

A fine late Autumn ride in the hills

The weather was a bit uncertain but being optimists the six of Chris, Dave, Steve, Andy, Rob and Raph set off hoping for the best.  The outward route took us via the Brickworks, Eccles Pike, Rushup Edge and Winnats Pass before a lunch stop at the Adventure Cafe in Hope.  As the name suggests this was more of a cyclist oriented cafe than the more usual garden centre variety with secure bike parking (including cycle locks).   We were now at the low point of the Hope Valley which meant that we had a steep climb out of Bradwell to reach the limestone plateau above Peak Forest.  The benefit of this was that we now had some good cycling along quiet lanes with great views and absolutely no hawthorn hedges.  The descent of Peaslows from Sparrowpit to Chapel then set us up for the final part of the ride from Whaley back to Macc.  The ride stats were 47 miles with 5400 feet of climb at an average speed of around 11 mph.  Raph
