Lark Ride to Church Minshull

Some 63.99 miles (but I’m claiming 64) at 15.1 mph (Cateye bike computer) or 15.4 mph (Garmin).

Why do I stress over the difference? Because I am a data junkie, that’s why, and I always rush to my un-PC PC after a ride, with barely a nod to my charming family members vying with each other to ply me with cups of restorative Rooibos tea with soya milk and plates of vegan flapjacks, to analyse this week’s baked beans to return-leg power ratios. So if my Garmin is lying I shall have words with it.

Anyway the return leg seemed more like 18.5 mph after a tough headwind for our 33-mile outward route, created by some maniac with no regard to the Met Office’s cryptic clue WSW, which I now realise may mean Westerly South Westerly, or something like that. Who cares anyway, as it was so good to be out again on a Saturday after last week’s layoff courtesy of the cold weather, even if I was struggling on the way home. Tough at the top or what? I shall have to up my game for next Sunday’s Barry Hyde Circuit of the Edge. Yes, we’ll have easier than usual Lark and Larkling Rides next Saturday to give this leader a fighting chance on Woodbrook Road.

Those narrow-hipped riders in full narrow boatie glory: Christian, Louis, Andrew, David (taking the place of Rob who traded up to the Larkling Ride for the return leg), Simon Members and Darren.

Thinking of coming out with us? This is what 33 miles into the wind looks like. Clockwise from bottom left: Andrew, Darren, Chris, Rob, Christian, Louis. Note: ride leader still smiling.
