Breakfast at Beeches
It was cloudy, chilly but dryish, with just a hint of moisture, for today's easy ride.
I had estimated that there would be 11 of us when I phoned the cafe yesterday, and got it spot on ( maybe I should start doing the lottery?) Griff, David, Phil, Tim, Martin, Gawsworth John, and new rider Katie (welcome!) started with me at Broken Cross. We picked up Simon Ga part way up Pexhill, Jim at Siddington and Snowy appeared as if by magic somewhere after that. Our route took us along Catchpenny Lane, past Jodrell Bank, then Red Lane, Grotto Lane, Stocks lane, and the superior track with a better surface than a Cheshire lane, running past the polo club and coming out at Lower Moss wildlife centre. It was then a short ride through Ollerton to the cafe on the busy Chelford to Knutsford road.
We arrived at the exact time given to the cafe (11.30am), there was a cry went around “ the cyclists are here”, various staff appeared, ready to take our orders and the chef sprung into action. Most people sat inside, Snowy and I braved the outdoors, the drinks and food made it to the correct people, and there was even a gluten free bacon and egg triple decker produced for Snowy. Afterwards we all rode the plotted route back past Bates Mill to Bomish Lane. There we split into two groups, with Phil leading a group of five back to Macclesfield, whilst I led a group of six who wanted extra miles and a second cafe stop back towards Marthall and Wilmslow.
Next week's ride is in the calendar, but please check the website before you set off as the weather is due to go arctic.
