Jokes at Jodrell
There were 14 of us out on today’s easy ride - read on to find out more about the jokes.
We split into two groups at Siddington, with Griff leading a slightly faster group of ten riders, whilst I rode at a slightly steadier pace with Lia, out on her first Sunday ride (welcome!), Gawsworth John and Jim. Our route took us along some quiet lanes to Twemlow Green, then right to Goostrey church, and right again up to Jodrell. Blue skies, sunshine and autumnal trees made it a very pleasant ride.
We timed it well, Griff’s group had all ordered, and a large group from another club had departed so there was space in the bike shed. The cafe menu was more limited than it was in the summer, with pasties, sausage rolls and cakes, and just one member of staff doing everything, so probably best to check ahead that it’s open in future. It was very warm inside, so Jack, Jim and I sat outside in the sunshine.
It started clouding over as we got ready to set off again, and then Mark discovered that he had a puncture in his front tyre. There is nothing worse than having to fix a puncture with an audience, particularly one with a stream of jokes. The funniest for me was Snowy’s very accurate and well timed imitation of air coming out of a tube. Some of us did offer some practical help, including Jim’s special tyre gadget, Jack’s pump and my supply of baby wipes for several pairs of mucky hands.
For our ride back we split into two groups, eight heading back to Macclesfield, and six of us heading back towards Wilmslow, including those wanting some extra miles. Most of us made it back before the rain, thanks to Griff for leading, and to Sue for making sure that Lia got back to Broken Cross.
