Sunday Easy Ride to Shipbrook
A dry day with some occasional sun for today's easy ride.
11 of us were out on today's jaunt to Shipbrook. Departees from Broken Cross were Alicia, Jen, Kev, Gawsworth John, Nigel, Jack on his trike, Richard and myself leading. We picked up Simon G, Rachel and Jim at Siddington, and with some wind assistance speeded through the lanes to Twemlow Green, across to Cranage then along some lanes which were new to some of the group. We almost lost Jack when he stopped for a natter with a fellow trikie, Carol, near Goostrey, but he recaught us. My Garmin was behaving this week, so the only errors were due to the operator. Rachel left us at the cafe to go for an outdoor swim. The sun had come out so we opted for outdoor seating in the courtyard. The sun promptly vanished again, and several of us retreated indoors. The food orders varied from full English breakfast, through poached eggs on toast which arrived with spinach, to toasties which arrived with salad. The first few miles of our return journey were a little eventful, my emergency banana self ejected from my bar bag, and I only just retrieved it before a van could run over it, the lace on my cycling boot got tangled in the pedal and then I misread my Garmin and turned left, instead of right then left. Jen spotted that before we got too far! The rest of the ride was uneventful, arriving back at Siddington at 2.20pm, with an average speed of 13.3 mph.
