Beeston Brow hill climb

We were hugely privileged to have some star riders taking part in this closed road event on Bank Holiday Monday, including professional Matt Holmes (Madison Genesis) and former British hill climb champion Adam Kenway (Vitus Pro Cycling).

27 riders tackled this brute of a climb, 0.8 miles in length, with a gradient peaking at 25%. Fortunately, the weather held off for duration of the race meaning the cobbled section was reasonably dry. However, Rick Bailey (B38/Cycles in Motion), who took third place at our Teggs Nose open hill climb earlier this month, slipped a wheel and lost time; spectators reported he was flying before that. Also, special mention to 10-year old Joe Cuff (B38/Cycles in Motion), the youngest rider in the race, for conquering the hill.

These events are impossible without the help and support of club members and friends, I’d like to thank the following for making the day run smoothly and safely: John Baguley, Chris Cottom, Rachel Gilliland, David Higham, Martin Jackson, Claire Logan, Wayne Marchbank, Richard Newstead, Greg Rowson, Sue Rowson, Dominic Slinn, Simon Smith, Roger Wrenn and Emma Yardley.

Thanks also to Bollington Scout Group for providing refreshments on the day. We’re also very grateful for the help and support of the Bollington Festival, in particular Jon Beck, Roland Edwards and Tim Marten; and to David Naylor and Peter Clare of Bollington Town Council.

Some photos of the race can be found at the links below. Additional links will be added as they become available, so check back every now and again.
