6@6 Training Ride 17th Dec
We were back to two groups again last night on the 6@6 training ride and even if seven is a slightly awkward number it’s a lot better than other odd numbers like three or five.
A 3-up with Mark W, Steve L, and Carl headed off towards Goostrey first, followed about a minute later by a 4-up with your’s truly Fred W, Boothy, Ant and Stockport Dave. We kept them in contact and were thinking about a serious effort to pull them in until about half a mile before the Yellow Broom when Ants back mudguard detached itself from the stay’s. Luckily one of the clubs qualified electricians was on hand to mend it with quality insulation tape.
We had good change’s called at 2 minutes. Conditions were typical for a winter training ride, a tailer heading up from Byley towards Seven Sister not that we really noticed it. My windsock says 15mph southerly but trying to keep on the target speed we're still pushing at least 5mph into it and when your legs have already had a good thrashing the last ten miles especially round Chelford its 15mph pushing you backwards.
Our group tried to keep it together doing our turn’s all the way back up Pexhill so it’s not really fair to put anyone on the virtual podium but if there was a ride of the night’s it was probably Ant’s 💪 but I can’t compare with the 3-up and he dropped a few points for mudguard issues.
Lesson’s reinforced:
Turn’s come round quiker in 3 and 4 up’s than 6-ups
Lessons learned (by Carl & Dave):
Miss a couple of weeks and get a bit rusty and its hard to get back on if you loose the wheel in front on a windy night 😤 .
There’s no 6@6 scheduled for the next two weeks as it’s Xmas then New Year’s Eve, but it will be back on in January. Don’t get to rusty and two even 6 ups would be great.
