Saturday Social Ride report - 15 Aug

A range of abilities & machines enjoyed a relaxed easy ride on quiet lanes in near perfect cycling weather.

We had a great turnout, 16 in total pre-registered, so as people arrived we immediately divided into three groups to maintain distance. A big hi to those who came but I did not meet or speak to. Sorry not to get a chance to chat more but at least our social distancing worked!

Rachel’s group headed out first with Richard B, Paul B and Margaret G up Leek Old Road and past Sutton reservoir. Adele’s group set of next with Laura H, Mary R, Robert N, Michael M and Brian as the back-marker. Robert and Michael on lovely new e-bikes, this group went anti-clockwise round the same route. Then I set off on the same route as Rachel’s group with Patricia M, James G & his son Ben, and Bruce & Ricci on the tandem.

Rachel’s group sped away round to Marton and up to Redesmere where they met Adele’s group for a photo shoot by the lake. My group met Adele’s group at 17km - very nearly halfway round. Rachel’s speedy group got back shortly after noon followed by Adele’s group at about 12.45 and my group last at just gone 1. In our group there was a bit of competition between Bruce and Ricci on the Tandem and James and Ben who had some great team tactics for a sprint finish on the home straight. I am not sure who can claim victory as there was some dispute over the exact location of the finish line. A few of us enjoyed a drink and light lunch outside Sutton Hall after.

Good to see new and familiar faces and looking forward to seeing everyone out more in the future. Thanks to all for their support in organising and leading and making this a very enjoyable trip out!
