Langsett 2022 Edition

Some veteran wheelers went over to Yorkshire on the road (well mainly road) last saturday.

Leaving Macc at about 10.30 the first climb was up the Brickwork’s, then the grind up onto Rushup Edge before descending Mam Nick for a Cafe stop just this side of Bamford. Next was the queen stage, we cut through Thornhill to Ladybower before turning onto Mortimer Road by which time it was hotting up a bit with the fabled leg bending climb “Strines” 😤 at the top. Then it was tea and carb topping up (mainly chip butties) at the polka dot cafe in Langsett. Heading back over Woodhead using the summit section of the trans Pennine trail it was hard going for a while into a significant headwind which didn’t ease up until we were down in Glossop. We shopped for water before heading through Charlesworth to the bottom of the last climb out of Marple Bridge then a spin out along the Middlewood way and back at the Kings Head for proper rehydration about six.🍻

Here’s the ride in numbers.

  • Miles on the clock: 80+

  • Climbing: about 6,500 feet

  • Average speed: 14mph +

  • Temperature: warm enough

  • Punctures: just one

  • Mechanicals: Fozzy’s 20 year old tyre almost had a terminal hernia

  • Sore knees: at least one

  • Tired legs: probably sixteen
