What Happened & What Could Happen On Monday Evenings

Monday evening was ideal conditions for a steady training ride.

What a pity only four of us turned out to try and get our leg’s working a bit faster than they have been doing. It might have been a bit easier with a few more, those turn’s on the the front wouldn’t have come round so frequently 😤.

We opted for the 3 x Swettenham loops circuit, it felt appropriate for a monday night as former participants of the old intermediate chain gang will recall and sure enough we all recalled and felt the little dig up onto Swetty Road.

So it was hardish work but I suppose only as hard as we wanted to make it for ourselves, we worked well as a group, staying together, changing properly every couple of minutes with none missed which all helps to keep up the momentum.

Carl peeled off before the return up Pexhill,  we had passed his house three times so he had resisted the temptation to rest up his rusty legs more than once. That left Rich, Jochen and your correspondent still doing our turn’s all the way up, well very nearly all the way in my case 😎 as my legs finally said no at the bottom of the final push up to BX so I sat up in twiddle mode and watched Rich pull Jochen over the line 💪👏.

Will it happen next week ??. I’am happy to turn out but I can’t do a training ride on my own and we need a few more to get a good chain gang going. The ethic of the Steady Training / 10-2-7 Ride has always been that older riders who arn’t able do the faster chain gang can do a slower one and at the same time bring on and help rider’s new to it. What we really need is the new rider’s who want to train. It isn’t all about speed and going hard, it's also learning (and enjoying🤪) to ride with confidence in a disciplined group helping each other. The ride dosn’t have to be the same every week and can be varied depending what people want to do. Any questions just ask. fred.w@macclesfieldwheelers.org . Watch this space.
