100% Dry / Wet club run

The last club ride of 2022 was the traditional Saturday afternoon club run.

Severn wheelers; Roger, Nigel, Mark, Jill, Rachel, Brian and your’s truly Fred met up in South Park at 12pm for a relatively easy paced 40 mile outing stopping for refreshments at Plumbley and finishing with further refreshments at the Kings Head. Plumbleys GC cafe turned out to be just the job, not busy at all, plenty of choice of food etc, they were closing early but we were there on target time between 1:15& 1:30 pm so all good.

Happily the 20% chance of rain turned out to be 0% rain all afternoon however the roads were still about 100% wet, especially on Middlewhich road where there was a flood the size of a small lake. At least your correspondent managed to surf through that one keeping his feet dry but not so the next deceptively smaller but actually deeper one near Marton, so the last few miles was with wet socks. At least that's all that was wet unlike riding home from the pub when it was a whole body soaking since by then in was raining about 200% 🌧🙄 (I should have gone home when the sensible peeps did instead of having another pint (cheers thanks Roger 🍻😀)

Going into 2023 the traditional Saturday afternoon club run is scheduled on the calendar at 12pm fortnightly alternating with the 10pm Saturday social ride. It's intended to be an inclusive ride suitable for as many members as possible and always around 40 miles with a cafe stop. Destinations/ routes are normally posted up by the ride leader a day or two before as it’s sensible to do that when  there's an idea of the likely prevailing weather. At least one additional (pop up) Saturday ride has also been organized and has been successful so hopefully more in 2023 but as always the club needs people to volunteer to lead rides.

Happy new year and cycling in 2023, see you next time.
