Steady Training Ride Thursday Evening

A few spots of rain at kitting up time didn’t stop four of us meeting up at 6.30 pm last night for a steady training ride.

By the time we got to the Red Lion there was no evidence of even those few spot’s as the road was completely dry but there was far too much of evidence of a block headwind from the north west. Former KOM 👑 for the circuit (X Goostrey X) Mark W was out for the first time in a good while and asked us to go easy on him as he was still feeling a bit rusty, he could have kidded me as I tried to keep on his wheel on the way out, I kept having nightmarish flashbacks to the day before coming back over the cat trying to hold on to Dave Thorp.

Fortunately we got more of a tailwind for the second half of the ride, conventional wisdom is that’s the best way and that’s probably correct provided one doesn't have to dig so deep at the start that one can’t recover. Well thing’s can’t have been that bad as we all kept doing our roughly two minute turns with none missed back to Siddington. However your correspondent’s leg’s said no sooner than normal on Pexhill so sorry I can’t give you a commentary on the final action but suffice to say Fozzy, Rich & Mark shared the podium places (and Fred was 1st supavet 😎).

The ride’s been do-able for the last three weeks and the outlook for the next is favorable, Fozzy has it as a weekly must do item in his 2022 dairy so it seems a good time to put it back on the club calendar as a regular fixture. So now no one can use the excuse they don’t know if it's on or not….. It’s on every week until further notice. Put it in your dairy now: https://www.macclesfieldwheelers.org.uk/calendar/2022/2/17/steady-training-ride
