Lark and Larkling Rides to Betley

Here I am, late again with my ride report. At this rate, I shall never make my dream job as cub reporter on The Beano.

Sixteen of us on our combined Lark and Larkling Ride to Betley.

I felt characteristically smug at calling us to a halt outside Gawsworth New Hall so I could call Betley Tea Room on what I believe I should refer to as my device. ‘No problem,’ our hostess told me.

‘No way,’ I said as, approximately 24.2 miles later, I led the charge into Betley Court to find a load of bikes outside. Our hostess assured me that she hadn’t thought that the other riders were us, and that she would manage. ‘They’ turned out to be our friends Congleton Cycling Club, so anyone hoping for a Mods & Rockers type stand-off would have been disappointed. Yes, we were there for a hour and yes the food was good and plentiful; but yes, next time I shall check CCC’s website first. Ah, the lot of the ride leader.
