Lark Ride to Wetton

Beautiful countryside, including several lanes new to me on return leg after Ilam around Calton.

60 miles door-to-door at 11.6 mph for me, and for much of which I was struggling again. Fortunately so was one other rider so when, at mile 40, our other companions had graciously waited yet again, this time after a very tough headwind along Morridge Top Road, I exercised Ride Leader Emergency Option 27 and dispatched them homewards to trudge up Gun Hill etc at the (snail’s) pace befitting to a man of my age and (poor) condition, denying my companion the charms of Bearda and Barlow Hills, and opting for the much loved (by me) Wincle Bypass instead of the latter. Yes, I was pretty shattered when I staggered into my kitchen for three mugs of reviving tea and three slices of toast and jam (strawberry, Aldi).
