1 pm Club Run

Postby fredspark » Sun Mar 04, 2018 4:23 pm

Whilst the MTB'ers were doing winter sports on the 1pm ride Mike Calman and myself ventured out on our road bikes initially with some trepidation.
It was a bit tricky going down Oak Road Mottram which was covered in snow for couple of hunrded yards but after we got the other side of Alderley barley any snow anywehre in the fields and very good road conditions. Out through Ashley, Tatton Park & Plumbly and a cafe stop at Goostrey.
I thought we would get hit by the beast from the east on the way back to Macc but it never really happened, just got a bit blowy at the top of Pexhill. A surprisingly good outing.

Saturday 1pm Club Run to Monyash. There are a couple of option's to shorten the route; going through to Gradbach via the Eagle and Child rarther than the gated road and going directly to Monyash from the top of Crowdicote instead of Parsley Hey. Back is the straightforward way over Axe Edge and down the Cat. If you really want to go back to south park turn left at the bottom of Buxton Rd onto Sunderland Street but this ride finish's at the Ship Inn where the afternoons activities can be reviewed with the help of a recovery drink. ADVANCE NOTICE: there will be no Club Run next saturday 14th April as it's the club's Open 25m Time Trial. If your not entered or have not already volunteered please offer to help out. You can have a very rewarding afternoon riding out to Goostrey and watching some of your clubmates try and conquer the j29

Monyash
44.7 mi, +4210 ft. Starts in Macclesfield, England

On a not very promising afternoon yesterdays 1pm club run headed to Eaton near Tarporley following something like but not exactly the track the lark ride had made in very different (as somebody kept reminding us) weather a week before.
Heading out west it looked like the sun was going to break through but de capeing at Middlewhich turned out to be not a very good idea as there was a cloudburst about five miles before the Cafe. That was the hardest few miles of the ride but heading back turned out to be a lot more pleasant, past Oulton Park, down cinder hill, over the Weaver and up through Davenham. There was bareley a spot of rain and maybe a bit of a tailwind and by the time we headed up Pexhill we had more or less dried out.
Out with us for the first time on the Saturday club run was Kate B (great rideing Katie), Andy J turned out to test his winter gear, Dave H followed my wheel so closely up Pexhill he bent the mudflap, Andy R behaved himself for the most part but I can see why he gets shouted at on the lark ride ( your wasting your breath tho Chris he just thinks its a badge of honour), Simon G joined us en route making it a bunch of six with yours truly.
The no drop zone extended for all sixty miles and the average speed must have been bang on target as we were back at Broken X at about 5.45.

Last saturday was a flatish ride so as the weather is looking good its a hilliy one this saturday at 1pm.
Since some of us might be doing one, two or even three charity rides on Sunday its going to be not to difficult, about a 40 mile round trip with barley 4000 ft of climb to Hartington/Hulme End.
Meet up at south Park, all welcome. It should be good.

Sorry we didn't have any photographers on the 1-0-clock club run but we would definatley have made a very pretty picture.
Fozzie, Woody, Nigel, Dave, Mike Rawsthorne and Steve Beckett enjoyed the view from the top of Eccles Pike while they waited for Roger and myself to grind our way up, the trouble was they had quite a long wait as we had skirted round the bottom on the "official" route.
All the climbing before the No Car Cafe where there was a least one car was rewarded by a very pleasant cruise back through Peak Forest in the afternoon sunshine. It got a bit lumpy again before descending down Castle Naze to Comb's but it was nice up there as well.
We were all safely back by 5.30 and there will be another installment with or without photo's and nowhere near Eccles Pike next Saturday afternoon.

1pm Club Run Saturday 6th October:
Its about 24 steady miles to the Anderton Boat and about 48 miles total to the back door of the Ship Inn where we can reflect on the afternoons activities or if preferred carry on the extra mile or so back to the start point in south Park, but I know what I'll be doing.
The weather looks like rain in the morning and clearing up in the afternoon with a north east wind so Winter Bikes and Winter kit would be a good idea.

The count was over twelve yesterday afternoon and that's to many to list everybody's names.
We stayed together for the steady flat ride then effectively split into two groups for the last couple of miles back, the climb out of Alderley Edge through Mottram, which was fine.
A unplanned highlight was a bit of gravel riding then a circumnavigation of the car park on the final approach to the Cafe at Anderton where everybody seemed far more interested in the cakes on offer than the boat lift.
I cant say what the average speed was but the important statistic is that 100% made it to the top of Hare Hill and over 50% of us made it to the Ship Inn for 5.15pm which was excellent.
Sorry there's no pictures again, everybody was far to busy, but honestly this is a true and fair record of the 1pm club run.
