58 miles not quite enough for you, but 92 too much? Or perhaps you don't want to do one loop at Sunday training ride pace? Here's another option: one loop to Tattenhall Ice Cream Farm and back - 71 miles. You might like to start at 8.00 am with the two/three loopers. See you at Broken Cross.

Here's the route https://ridewithgps.com/routes/12454157

If you're considering three loops, it would help if you could let me know that you're thinking of coming. That's because I've reserved a table for bar snacks at the Bickerton Poacher.

Ah, I did wonder why last year's routes ended at the Flora cafe. Nothing to stop any rider sampling its delights, although experience suggests that standard three-cafe three loopers, as opposed to bionic non-stoppers like you Phil, invariably get back to Macc long after all cafes have shut up for the night and are, in any case so caked-out that they need a statutory six-day detox before they can look another scone in the eye.

The Three Loops ride was devised by Richard Elliott, a member of the Wheelers from 1990 and chairman from 1996 until his sudden death in 1998. He joined his first cycling club aged 12 and rode many time trials, including 50s and 100s, as well as 12 and 24 hour races, winning the Wessex 24 hour in 1977. In the 1970s when Audaxes started in the UK Richard read a write-up about a Windsor-Chester-Windsor Audax and announced to his wife Celia 'that's my kind of riding'. He subsequently rode many different Audax distances including Paris-Brest-Paris as well as several on tandems and tandem trikes with his eldest son Ben.

I have created the following additional files for anyone whose Garmin, like mine, sometimes goes wonky after a cafe stop:

3 Loops - Loop 1 and 2 only

3 Loops - Loop 3 only

This is the news as I currently know it. Phil C and Darren were last seen sprinting up Whirley Road, with the former at least intending to do all three loops non-stop (!!!).

Andrew Rowe and Annick completed one loop to Tattenhall and back. Jon Bale and Matt Roberts completed two loops. Dave Boardman, Steve Hornby and I completed three loops. All of these riders except Annick and I achieved their highest ever mileage in one day. Thank you to Dave for towing me back the last 15 miles or so. Special congratulations to Steve who only got on a bike again after 30 years in January, some 10 weeks ago; riding from home and back gave him an astonishing total of 150 miles (and with the prospect of leaving the house at 5.00 am this morning to drive to Dartford).
Chapeau Steve.
:salut:

Sadly Claire and Wayne had to abandon after about 20 miles owing to a recalcitrant freehub, but otherwise a great day and perfect cycling weather.

Don't feel too bad Simon - belted round Malpas loop with tailwind for a change - but return leg was hard really, at least for a man of my age, but then of course you are younger than me. Everything's relative, Uncle. Hope you'll be back with us soon.

15 easy riders completed the 1 Loop with a 2 cafe stops. Stop one was morning coffee at Davenham. The second stop involved a slight detour to Minshulls Garden Centre for lunch.
