V.T.T.A. - Veterans Time Trial Association

Postby Mike Roberts » Mon Nov 09, 2015 11:02 am

Having been a member for over 20-years and, on Sunday, attending the Annual General Meeting of the Manchester & North West Group for the umpteenth time, it occurs to me that little has been mentioned of the time trialling exploits of Macclesfield Wheelers in its events and championships.

Roger Wrenn might almost be classed as our only memorable standard bearer in the Over-40 sphere of time trialling, having set many new personal standards and gained a lot of wins for his 'Best Plus' performances.

However, Mikel Knudsen has also made his mark this season with exceptional success in his Danish 'hour' record ride on the track.

Mindful of the lack of new members joining the association, the Mcr & NW Group will be putting together a message to club secretaries in the foreseeable future striving to promote more interest. There is a national website with facilities for groups such as ours to contribute details of its Age Records and this remains to be maximised.

Mike

You make some good points here.

Joining the VTTA opens up a whole new range of competitions and awards to members. These include National Records (of which Roger holds more than I can count), BAR competitions based on 25/50/100 miles as well as the more traditional 25/50/100/12 hours based on age standards, and age related National Championships (in which even I have three Gold Medals).

More generally, we currently have no facility on the website to record and retain members' rides and achievements other than those that are collated in the Press Reports. Nor do we have any mechanism for reviewing the Club's racing - or other - achievements over the year (such as Mike's Hour Record). The obvious way to deal with the latter would be a report for the AGM. Perhaps we should discuss how we might do this at a future Committee Meeting?
