Zoom in on the southern tip of the reservoir to see MIllfields car park.

There is a purpose laid recreational footpath/cycleway which follows the perimeter of the reservoir for most of the way round, the exception being a short stretch through Carsington Village avoiding the busy B5035.

Ths Visitor Centre can be seen on the west side of the reservoir and the straight section between there and Millfields car park shows the trail passing over the Dam embankment.

There are toilets at Millfields and at the Visitor Centre . The Visitor centre has shops, two cafes ,kids' play area etc, all well set up for the family day out business. There are benches and picnic tables all over the place.

If you need a short and totally flat ride (ie if you have toddlers riding their own bikes) we suggest you just head westwards from the car park, over the dam to the Visitor centre and enjoy some time there.
Otherwise we head eastwards from the car park and follow the trail up the eastern perimeter. Fat tires or skinny doesn't really make that much difference but nice low MTB gears might be appreciated by some as there are three short but quiet steep little 'ramps' on the first bit. There aren't really any hills to speak of and we just sort of amble along.
At the northern tip we cross over the B5035 to follow a lane through Carsington and then back over the road onto a trail through the bird sanctuary to the Visitor Centre. Maybe spend some time and rejoin any others already there. Then over the Dam and back to the car park.
Last year we finished the afternoon off with a picnic in the car park. I estimate the distance right round the reservoir to be about 8 miles.
