Evening Road Race 20/05/2014 - Help required!

Postby Anthony Allan » Thu Apr 24, 2014 5:04 pm

The Macclesfield Wheelers Evening Road Race will be held on Tuesday 20th May.
The race is on the Siddington circuit with the HQ at Siddington Village Hall.
Despite the terrible weather last year the event is well oversubscribed!

Marshals and lead car drivers are required, so if you are available from 6.30 to approximately 8.45 to help out at this popular Macclesfield Wheelers event please let me know and I will get back to you.
Please let me know in advance if you can help out so that I can ensure all posts are covered before the event, the race can’t go ahead without support from the Wheelers.
PM me on the forum or email me at antallan@fsmail.net

Any cake donations will be greatly appreciated by the catering department… and riders :-D

Cheers,
Ant

And a free shower  Thanks to everyone for making it such a safe race and for those marshals who stood out in the pouring rain. It wasn't at all pleasant riding so it must have been even worse standing around. Having a group of ducks try to bring down the bunch was the icing on the cake. :(

Soaked to the skin. Covered in grit from riders back wheels. Fingers so numb by the finish I was struggling to change gear. Trying to dodge the worst of the puddles. Group of mallard ducks deciding to cross the road just as the peloton approached....................

I have to say that I did actually enjoy my first ever road race! Thanks to everyone that helped organise it, especially the marshals who must have got very cold and wet.

First of all a big thank you to Ant Allen for organising. I know it has been a pretty stressful few days for him not knowing if the race would go ahead.

Many thanks for the marshalls who had to endure the heavy rain and the COLD!!!!

As to my race by the time I got to the finishing line on the first lap I could not feel my hands due to the cold. Full carbon clinchers/8 bar in the tyres, flooded roads. It was a no brainer. Preservation was the order of the day. Back to HQ.

Back home for bike cleaning duties. The ironic thing was that in Gawsworth there had been NO RAIN what so ever

Very dissapointed I could not ride our event but as they say in racing terms there is always tommorrow.

Chapeau :salut:to all riders in my group who endured the conditions to finish.

Conditions improved a little as the race went on but still pretty grim. Fortunately, people were being very sensible negotiating the corners.

Yep, thanks all for organising and marshalling/freezing! It was alright for us riders - at least we could keep warm by pedalling. I think I've got all of the mud and manure out of my eyes and ears now...
